Had this have been taken care of a couple of months ago, it might have been a sad goodbye. But at this point, I took my tag and belongings, threw the muffler in the back, and left.
Leaving in a Corvette may have helped my lack of sadness.

I’ve been looking at these for a fun weekend car, but aways weary of out of warranty VAG products.

It’s really funny to me how fast you went from singing praises about the car to loathing it, whether or not that is the fault of the dealer or not.

It was fantastic up until the point it was not.

Get a fun weekend car, not a hatchback than can sort of do fun. RWD is best WD.

It did seem like you were really enjoying it until the dealer tried to fix somethings.

Yeah, I just in this very thread realized that the most lauded GTI on Oppo was no more.
I call this “Failure to reach VW escape velocity.” About half of them are shit in the first year, the others give you almost
no trouble for a decade.

This is the way the GTI
ends
Not with a bang but an oil leak.

Still a great color. Pity about everything else.

I was, definitely. But the oil leak requiring engine/trans removal and separation put me off long term hopes from the start, then it just spiraled out of control. I’m really just happy the CX-5 is gone.

I bought a GLI because it’s capable of holding car seats and getting decent economy while commuting. It’s good enough to take autocrossing. 10/10 would not buy a GLI/GTI as a dedicated “fun” car.

I did a huge write-up on my 02 Z06 at one point here. To summarize the point I want to make here, I bought it from a guy I raced with. He raced the ‘Vette while I was starting out in a MINI. This car was not kept in a garage. Other than wear items, like a clutch or two (blame my dad), and a lot of tires and brakes...lots of brakes.....
Here’s the list of parts that went wrong in my 9 years of ownership from 87k miles to 175k miles:
1. A Thermostat
Ok, I’m done.
